I agree with a lot of what Ta-Nehisi Coates says here, but the bottom line for me is this:

I don't think the import of this is being appreciated. Effectively, I can bait you into a fight and if I start losing I can can legally kill you, provided I "believe" myself to be subject to "great bodily harm." 

This is the part of the case that I just can't understand.  It seems to me quite clear that Zimmerman was the instigator here.  That he got off scott-free to me just doesn't make sense.
